A great number of works (programs) have been created and shown through TV since TV broadcasting began in 1953. Among them, the works created in the 1960s to ‘70s, which can be thought of as TV’s second founding period, show the starting point of creativity in TV expression. In this project titled Tanukikoji TV, screening, talk events, exhibitions and the setting of a studio are planned at Tanukikoji Shopping Arcade in the south of Odori Park to find and share new perspectives to various existing expressions through TV expressions of the ‘60s and ‘70s and live broadcasting, a characteristic of early TV broadcasting.

Plans for this project include the screening of works by Konno Tsutomu, one of the founders of TV Man Union, Japan’s first independent TV production company, and an event to screen the best works produced by local TV stations in Sapporo. Live coverage from SIAF2017 venues will also be broadcast through TVs placed at stores in Tanukikoji Shopping Arcade. At the Tanukikoji Studio (Odori Suwaro Terrace), which will also serve as an information center, creators from Sapporo in a variety of genres will act as directors and plan, produce and broadcast TV programs with participants during the festival period.
