The venue where Kuwakubo Ryota will show his work is located near the west gate of Maruyama Zoo, and was the site of the popular cruise attraction Makyo no Densetsu, which was closed in 2010.
At this venue, Kuwakubo will create a piece themed on travel and sightseeing by referencing the work of Yoshida Hatsusaburo, who created bird’s eye views of places all over Japan including Sapporo. Yoshida, who drew a bird’s eye view by traveling throughout the area at the request of the national or local government and finding the places of interest and appeal of the town, is reminiscent of artists who are invited to numerous art festivals to create work. In this place where visitors could once feel like they were traveling in a primeval jungle, what kind of travel will visitors experience today?
