experiment view at Mt. Moiwa

Horio Kanta, who has visited Sapporo several times since the spring of 2016, will release two works at the festival.

One of them will be set up around the summit of Mt. Moiwa, which is located in the west side of downtown Sapporo. The foot of the 531-meter-high Mt. Moiwa is very close to residential streets, with steep slopes to its summit, which commands panoramic views of Sapporo (a city formed on an alluvial fan), Ishikari Bay and even the Hidaka Mountains. Horio is interested in views from the summit, especially the window glass reflection of buildings in the downtown and the beam from a lighthouse in the distance, and will set up a small luminous object on Mt. Moiwa. Things in the distance can be seen from here, so things here must be seen from there. Based on this hypothesis, he will try a dynamic yet small experiment using the terrain of Sapporo.

The second work will be set up in a building in Susukino, where uniforms were once manufactured. Susukino is one of Japan’s foremost neon-lit entertainment districts. A moving body created by the artist will shed light in the dark basement of the quiet abandoned building.
