OPEN GATE is an exhibition planned based on research in ASEAN countries by Asian Sounds Research*, in which Sachiko M serves as the project director. This exhibition has created an ever-changing space where sound and art coexist, enchanting viewers with a unique style that goes beyond the traditional concept of an exhibition or performance.
OPEN GATE 2017, a follow up to Hin Bus Depot (Penang, Malaysia) in 2015 and Aichi Triennale 2016 (Okazaki, Aichi), will be a four-day experimental exhibition and performance to create new expressions inspired by a dignified space in the vast area of Ishiyama Green Space (Minami-ku, Sapporo) as the venue. The momentary sound and works that will appear and disappear in the ever-changing exhibition will create a special once-in-a-lifetime moment and space.

A retrospective exhibition to look back on the activities of the Asian Sounds Research project, which seeks unknown expressions between music and art, through videos, photos and artwork, ranging from research on Penang Island, Malaysia in 2014 to research on Battambang, Cambodia in 2017. A small exhibition will begin at a café space on August 6 (Sun.). Archived videos and other records of the project’s journey (previous activities) will be shown from September 6 (Wed.). After the end of OPEN GATE 2017, the archive will be updated to create another ever-changing exhibition. This room will provide a special moment and a space in which to leisurely enjoy the start of the journey and its continuation.
