NEW LIFE: Exhibition without Replay

The Sapporo Art Park venue encompasses a vast forest dotted with buildings, including the Sculpture Garden.

Christian Marclay (one of the world’s most attention-grabbing contemporary artists and a pioneer of playing the turntables and other recording media) and Tone Yasunao (who has been active as an avant-gardist since the 1960s) will exhibit their works in the Art Museum, while ∈Y∋ (a core member of the rock band Boredoms and an influential visual artist in various fields) will exhibit work in the Craft Hall, and Suzuki Akio (a pioneer of sound art who has explored sound and space) and Fujita Yosuke (who has created an acoustic space using things found in nature as musical instruments) will exhibit in the forest. All of them are artists who have pursued unique activities with sound as the gate to expression.

As light is highlighted by the presence of darkness, they explore the field of perception of the present by questioning the function of media as a means of bringing back the past. If the word regeneration is recognized as a linkage of vivid live moments rather than the reenactment of the past through their works, the form of exhibition will be updated as a new environment for sharing.
