Yasunao Tone
Born in 1935. Artist/ critic / composer. In the early 1960s he co-founded “Group Ongaku”. In 1962 he was part of the Fluxus movement. In 1972 he moved to the United States, where he created an experimental trend in the electronic music scene around New York and Europe, and was involved in several important events of the time. With his proposed concept of “paramedia art”, he moves through a diverse range of mediums as a composer, such as electronic music, computer systems, video, radio, television, and environmental art. He has held concerts in the Kitchen (New York), MoMA (New York), The Whitney Museum of American Art (New York), and the Museud’ArtContemporani de Barcelona. He has participated in the Venice Biennale (1990), “From Postwar to Postmodern: Art in Japan 1945-1989” (MoMA, 2012), and the Yokohama Triennale (2001). He is the recipient of the Golden Nica Award (ARS ELECTRONICA), and the Music/Sounds Grant in 2004 from the Foundation for Contemporary Arts.
