Sapporo International Art Festival 2027 Expanding Framework for Open Call Projects through Partnerships with DIverse Local Organizations

The Sapporo International Art Festival サイアフ is moving forward with preparations for サイアフ2027, scheduled to take place from January 16 to February 21, 2027.
We are announcing the latest updates on サイアフ2027, including the third lineup of participating artists, on June 19. Following the announcement, a special talk event will be held on June 21 with the サイアフ2027 Director Team.
A key highlight of the upcoming announcement and talk event is the サイアフ2027 open call projects. サイアフ is actively promoting multiple open calls through collaborative efforts, continually deepening its engagement with citizens and local organizations.
As a part of this initiative, we are co-hosting an open-call poster exhibition with the Hokkaido Branch of the Japan Graphic Design Association Inc. JAGDA, which has joined as an Official Partner of サイアフ2027. This open call will be open to all graphic designers residing in Hokkaido.
In addition, the collaborative project Let’s Upastea winter art initiative connecting various events across Sapporo since the previous festivalwill expand its scope. For サイアフ2027, we will launch an open call for participating events held during the サイアフ2027 festival dates.
Each of these initiatives represents a major expansion of the festivals open call framework, creating more opportunities for people from diverse backgrounds to take an active and leading role in the festival.

Official partners are those that endorse the theme of サイアフ2027 and co-create サイアフ2027 by implementing or supporting programs that leverage their respective strengths and expertise.
サイアフ2027 Official Partner<br>Japan Graphic Design Association Inc. Hokkaido Branch JAGDA Hokkaido
The Japan Graphic Design Association Inc. JAGDA is the only nationwide professional association for graphic designers in Japan, with a membership of approximately 3,000 professionals.
JAGDA Hokkaido hosts an annual poster exhibition open to all designers residing in Hokkaido.
For the 2026 fiscal year, this exhibition will be held as a collaborative project between サイアフ and JAGDA Hokkaido, taking place at one of the official サイアフ2027 venues.
サイアフ Winter Art Collaboration Program<br>Let’s Upaste 2027 Sapporo Winter Arts Tour
Launched during サイアフ2024, Let’s Upaste is a collaborative program to invite you to explore winter art events in Sapporo.
The program has shown consistent success, partnering with 31 events in the 2024 fiscal year and 26 events in the 2025 fiscal year.
In preparation for サイアフ2027, we are now opening a public call for cultural and artistic programs that resonate with the festival’s theme and work together with us to brighten Sapporos winter art scene.
Further details regarding these two initiatives are scheduled to be announced on June 19.

サイアフ2027 Open Talk Come One, Come All
This talk event will feature the サイアフ2027 Director Team, who will introduce the latest updates to be unveiled on June 19.
In addition to announcing the third lineup of participating artists, the session will serve as a complete guide to the significantly expanded サイアフ2027 open call programs. Joined by guests from partner organizations, the directors will provide an in-depth explanation of the collaboration framework.
