Getting Sapporo from the Airport サイアフ Winter Pre-events
Due to heavy snowfall, public transportation in and around Sapporo is experiencing cancellations and delays. In particular, transportation between New Chitose Airport and Sapporo city is currently very unstable.
For those traveling from other parts of Japan and overseas, the サイアフ Secretariat has compiled a list of links to the latest operational information for major public transportation services, particularly related to the access between New Chitose Airport and the downtown area of Sapporo. Please refer to them for your safe travel.
Access from New Chitose Airport to Sapporo City
The two major options Railway JR and Bus.
When heading to Sapporo Station, your first choice would be either the Rapid Airport train or the buses to central Sapporo areas such as Odori or Sapporo Station. However, you can also take a bus from New Chitose Airport to the Sapporo suburbs and transfer to the subway, which may be less affected by snow. This can be a useful alternative even if your first choices were suspended, as buses heading to the suburbs may still be running.
Depending on the status of the JR Rapid Airport train, you may also consider getting off at JR Shin-Sapporo Station and transferring to the subway.
