Designing a Next Generation Art Festival
Sapporo International Art Festival サイアフ 2024 came to a close in February 2024. Rather than simply leaving a record of what took place, the サイアフ Secretariat produced the archive “Designing a Next Generation Art Festival The Sapporo International Art Festival Edition” so that the experience can be put to use in future festivals.
The archive has two parts. The first half is a photo-centered record of the festival. The second half looks closely at how the festival was run and produced, from the Secretariat’s perspective.
This is the official archive of Sapporo International Art Festival 2024 サイアフ2024. It looks back on the festival as a whole, the first in six and a half years and the first to be held in winter, from the Secretariat’s perspective.
From planning and operations to collaboration with the local community, it documents in detail what went on behind the scenes. Through photographs and text, it explores how the festival was put together and the thinking behind it.
Tracing ten years of サイアフ, this is a book for anyone interested in how art festivals are run or in local culture.
