- Venue
- Venue: Odori Park Nishi 5-chome
Sapporo International Art Festival 2017 presents “TOTTO MALL” directed by participating artist Yuichi Kishino. He will create a 12-meter tall snow sculpture and then use it in the presentation of his new work.
Tetsuko Kuroyanagi, an actress who has appeared on television since the 1950’s, will be featured as a nymph holding a huge television screen. In this work, the television will serve as a device that travels through time, displaying old images from the past and imagined visions of the future. Two wolves sit facing each other, one on each side of Tetsuko, like guardian statues watching over the changing seasons of the surrounding shopping area and the television. Various landscapes will appear in the performance; scenes of the four seasons in Japan, local shopkeepers depicted as Seven Gods of Fortune, and a shadow play featuring the long-lived Sapporo Streetcar transportation system (whose path was extended into a loop in 2015) will be projected on the television screen.
