Ueno Daisaku

Born in 1970. Based in Kitahiroshima. When he was 25 years old, Ueno ended his six-year career as a salaried employee to throw himself into ceramic art, and went on a nine-month motorcycling trip while visiting potteries around Japan. He has made a cellar kiln in Kitahiroshima near Sapporo, and produced thermal shrinking pottery using earth from Hokkaido and 3D works using wood, bamboo and other natural materials. He won the 26th Dogin Art and Culture Encouragement Prize in 2016.
