Haino Keiji

Born in 1952, Chiba. In 1970, he joined a group Lost Aaraaf, which was named after an Edgar Allan Poe poem, as a vocalist. Meanwhile, he started to work on home recordings and taught himself the guitar and percussions. In 1978, he formed the rock band Fushitsusha, opening up a completely new, powerful and profound dimension in hard rock. He took a break for medical reasons from 1983 to 1987, and returned to work again in 1988. Since then, he has been internationally active in various forms, including as a solo artist, in units such as Fushitsusha, Nijiumu, Aihiyo, Seijaku, Vajra, Sanhedrin, Nazoranai and Hardy Soul, and as a DJ under the name of Experimental Mixture. He has also taken part in sessions and collaborations with artists from different backgrounds. Drawing extreme sounds from the guitar, percussion instruments, the hurdy gurdy, wind and string instruments, regional instruments and DJ gear through a combination of physicality and unique techniques, he delivers an incomparable sound that is full of shamanism without transcendency as well as raging intelligence and awareness. He has released more than 170 recordings and performed live at least 1,500 times.
