Fuyuka Shindo

Based in Sapporo, Fuyuka Shindo has a strong interest in the diverse culture and vernacular history of northern Japan and environs, including Hokkaido, Sakhalin, and the Tohoku region.
She has learned traditional arts and handcrafting techniques from local peoples and applied them to the creation of her own work, placing them in the context of her own family life and personal memories.
In her new piece, Shimameguri (From the island to the island to the island), she draws parallels between the long, Chi-Ka-Ho exhibition space and the long, island chain of Sakhalin, Hokkaido, and Tohoku (northeastern Honshu), with works based on experiences in the three regions shown in three different locations along the walkway.
She will also hold workshops during the art festival.( Sapporo Ekimae-dori Underground Walkway 〈Chi-Ka-Ho〉)
